i understand what you’re saying, but I place that on a larger scale. it’s the human condition. we all have the capacity to wonder about things that other living things can’t. it can be enlightening, but at the same time, it can make us feel more and more limited.

Every age has its problems. Do you think life in the 1800′s was simple and intellectually easy? I have a feeling that people who lived then would strongly disagree. At any rate, this question reminds me of a Bertrand Russell quote, “Do not be envious of the happiness of those who live in a fools paradise, for only a fool would think that is happiness.” Also, I find that people who aren’t conisdered “intellectuals” often have a different kind of knowledge based on life experience. I find that you don’t need a college degree to be wise.

From time to time we may think this but do you really think life would be easier if you were dumbed down. These people can also struggle from anxiety and can have problems with interpreting what is real in our world today. Obviously you would rather be in the country side living out your days hassle free but who wouldn’t? It is a gift to be intellectual and it gives you the ability to adapt and to think freely. While others might never question their existence we are able to go beyond even science and religion to come up with our own theories.
Philosophy. We don’t live in the information age we live in the philosophical age its just hard to find others to share our views with. To all the questions you may ask there is always an answer out there and trust me you will not find the answer to happiness by dumbing yourself down and giving up the only weapon we humans have now days.

I believe it would be easier to live a simple life and be “stupid”. For me at times it is rather nice to be able to think things through and always question, and ponder about life. But for me I have to admit I wouldn’t mind giving all that up just to have my brain be silent for a few days. I’m always having “mind chatter” and thinking about everything all the time. It gets to a point where I can not stand it anymore and I just simply want some peace and quite in my mind.

No. Intelligence and common knowledge are both a gift and a blessing. Yes, it might be ‘easier’ to live in an outdated era, however we are born at the times in which the world needs us most.
There will always be a need for someone with a great mental capacity. Just look at those of us who are out there in the world making a significant difference in others’ lives because they are using what intelligence they were blessed with to better both themselves and their current invironment.
Everyone has times when they wish their intelligence to lower, because it is merely just human-nature for us to want to ‘fit in’ with our peers. But if you were born a butterfly, should you not extend your wings and show your truest colors? It is the same with intellectuals. We should be happy (not cocky or overly confident) with ourselves and use what we were given to better things around us.
Every butterfly must learn to stretch his wings and brighten up the sky with his enviable colors.
It isn’t a ‘burden’. It is merely given to those who will more than likely use it for some great purpose one day, or they will be of wise counsel to those around them who need it the most.
I hope this helped you see it from another perspective my friend. God Bless.

It`s too late to go back. It can be a bit lonely at times, one may feel misunderstood, but that is only because of a too narrow social circle- expand.
Besides- it`s easier to pretend to be stupid that wise. Incase you don`t want to affend the simpler folks by talking about the comparitivistic approach in modern maism.

You don’t have to be intellectual to feel burdened and stressed, it’s all a question of degree. You, for example, will fret about the state of the world and become stressed to the same degree as a lesser person worrying about the bin men being late again.

Assuming we are somewhat intellectual, the answer is no. If you are stupid, you would wish you were smart. You would have to perform manual labor day in and day out, repeatedly. So the only problem comes with intellect, as you deem it, is thinking too much beyond what you need to think about.

I too it feel it that way quite often – though I am not an intelluctual . deep thinking makes us slipping from the real world and it affects relationship .

Not sure if I’m an Intellectual or not, but I do spend the majority of my time thinking about political and philosophical things, as well as questioning every thing as much as a 14yr old anarchist, andddd its fucking depressing. My solution is, as horrible as it is will sound to some or most, once I get off work I roll a joint and grab a 6-pack, shuts my brain right off.
