Share Your Positive Attitude With a Smile
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to flash a smile at someone and automatically receive one in return? They say that smiling is infectious and can spread like wildfire. Unfortunately, the same is true for sadness. If you look at someone and frown, they may look back with sorrow, hurt, anger or even sympathy. If this is the way things go, than that means we all have the power to affect one another, each and every day, whether we realize it or not. The degree to how much someone will allow us to affect them is controlled internally, but, just because they don’t show it on the outside, doesn’t mean they don’t feel it.
Now because you hold this power within you, you can choose to use it poorly and bring other people down who are around you or you can choose to use it wisely by lifting people up. The choice is up to you, but only one will have the positive outcome. If you choose to frown you can guarantee a host of negative emotions internally and from those around you. On the other hand, if you choose to smile, not only will you boost the mood of those around you, you’ll also feel a lot better on the inside.
Because I’m a positive person, I’m going talk about the better of the two, smiling. If you are like me, and enjoy seeing other people smiling, than the first step to take is to wake up every morning with a goal of making 10 people smile that day. As you get better at it, increase the number. Before you know it, you’ll be smiling at everyone you meet and spreading along positive vibes.
That’s the power of a smile – the ability to make a difference in someone’s life with a simple gesture that anyone can do. A lot of people are affected by a bad day or the feeling that everything is going wrong for them, but the simple pass of a smiling stranger – you – will allow them to forget about their troubles for a little while. At that moment, that person realizes that there is someone out there who cares and they feel a slight lift in mood. For this reason, making people smile is a powerful gift that we should choose to use.
When choosing to smile, not only will you feel the positive outcomes as others are smiling back, you’ll also notice a change in you. A simple smile allows your attitude to change and become more positive. It’s difficult to slump around when you’re smiling; the two just don’t work together. If that isn’t enough reason to start, or you’re still finding it hard to maintain that smile, start by working towards a more positive you. Each and every day try finding the good in the situations around you, no matter how bad they may seem you’ll start to notice a slight smile appear as you remain more positive.
Practice changing your mindset from a negative to more positive. It may take a little time, but with effort you can start to make progress. The more you practice being positive, the easier it will come. When you start to feel more positive, you are more apt to smile and start making others smile around you.
It is said that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile. And we all know how nice it is to receive a smile from a stranger walking by, who took the time to make us feel a little better. Now it’s our turn to get out there and do the same, why not change the world a little each day, share a smile.
