Media Training – The Toughest Media Interview of 2009 (and How You Could Survive It)

February 4th, 2010

“You lie!”

We all remember those two words shouted by a House backbencher at President Obama during his address to Congress.

But it wasn’t the first time those two words were used during the health care debate.

Lawrence O’Donnell, a strong supporter of health care reform, guest hosted MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews in mid-August. His guest was Rep. John Culberson (R-TX), a strong opponent of health care reform.

During the interview, Mr. O’Donnell called his guest a liar. He was sarcastic, disrespectful, badgering, accusatory, hostile, and rude.

And it became the toughest media interview of 2009.

Before reading our tips for how to survive a hostile interview, we recommend you watch the clip (the link appears at the bottom of this article).

FIVE WAYS YOU CAN SURVIVE A HOSTILE INTERVIEW

1. Stay Calm and Let the Audience Get Upset With the Interviewer

Former ABC News anchor Ted Koppel used to say that an audience’s allegiance is to the interviewer, not the person being interviewed – at least at the beginning. But if the viewer at home perceives the interviewer as being unfair, impolite, or flat out rude, the interviewer will lose his audience, and sympathy will shift to the person being interviewed.

That’s exactly what happened in this case. Although I agree with Mr. O’Donnell’s views on health care, I found myself upset with him for treating his guest in such an uncivil manner. As Mr. Koppel suggested, my sympathies entered the segment with Mr. O’Donnell and exited with Rep. Culberson.

Rep. Culberson maintained his composure throughout most of the interview, and helped himself by allowing the audience’s sympathy to shift his way.

Remember – an aggressive host is trying to get a reaction out of you. Although an aggressive response may sometimes be called for, it should be intentional – not as an automatic reaction to instigation.

2. Ask Permission to Answer the Question

Rep. Culberson asked Mr. O’Donnell for permission to answer the question nine times in eight minutes.

At one point, he said, “I’m not sure why you had me on today if you’re going to do the whole show. I’m giving you a very serious answer.” At another point, he asked, “Lawrence, excuse me, am I going to be able to give an answer here?”

Rep. Culberson handled the aggressive interruptions well by earnestly asking for time to answer the questions. Although Mr. O’Donnell didn’t allow him to answer, the audience’s sympathy moved from host to guest as they judged the questioning unfair.

3. Do Not Insult the Host or the Network

Mr. Culberson’s report card is mixed on this one.

On the plus side, he did not attack Mr. O’Donnell personally. But Culberson failed when he said, “Lawrence, do you wonder why nobody watches MSNBC?” He repeated that line four times, potentially alienating the entire viewing audience, which presumably tuned into MSNBC because they liked the network.

It’s true that his anti-MSNBC comments likely played well with his conservative base in Texas, but they were unnecessary and ceded the high ground he had earned with MSNBC’s viewers.

4. Do Not Walk Off

Rep. Culberson must have contemplated ending the interview, removing his microphone, and walking away. But that’s an automatic loss, and he gained points for finishing the interview.

I’ve seen numerous guests walk off in anger mid-interview. It never looks good, and eliminates any chance that the audience will shift its sympathies to you. Don’t do it.

5. Take It To The Web

Rep. Culberson had one other option available to him – the Internet. He could have said, “You know Lawrence, your questions are important – but since you won’t let me answer your questions here, I’ll answer them on my website by the end of the day so your viewers can see my answers.”

By doing so, Culberson could have reasserted control, appeared transparent and willing to answer the questions, and gotten his written views included in any future media coverage of the interview.

How to Lose 100 Pounds in 6 Months Or at Least Come Close

February 4th, 2010

If you’re wondering how to lose 100 pounds in 6 months I can say that it isn’t guaranteed that you’ll succeed. You will need to shed 16-17 pounds of your weight each and every month which is a real challenge. However, even if you don’t manage to lose 100 lbs in 6 months, you can come close. It’s mostly up to you, your level or commitment, motivation, and your knowledge.

1. The first thing you need to figure out is how you got to your current weight. This will help you make sure that you don’t make the same mistakes in the coming 6 months. Do you eat at bad restaurants? Do you eat too much in front of the TV without noticing it? Are you totally inactive during the day, sitting for too long?

Weight gain does not come out of the blue. Try to see what caused it and you will have your first actions steps to a change.

2. If you want to lose so much weight in such a small period of time, you will need to workout. At first, you may find this difficult as you’re likely out of shape. Some exercises may be too difficult to your to perform right now. For instance, running may not be good for your knees until you lose some weight but you can do as much walking as you like.

The key to effective fat burning workouts is to combine cardio with strength training. You won’t find a better and faster way to lose fat. Do 3–4 workouts each week, covering each and everyone of your muscle groups in a variety of strength exercises. After you do your strength workouts, do some cardio. It doesn’t have to be fast and furious at first. Just make sure you build a nice sweat and feel the exertion.

3. You will need to change your eating habits. Cutting down on your calories will likely be necessary as wll as changing how you eat and the composition of your calories. Make sure you eat more protein and fiber rich foods as they will help you boost your metabolism and curb your appetite. In addition, refrain from big meals. Train your body to thrive on small and tasty meals. Eating small and often can help you achieve a faster weight loss. You may be surprised by how easy it can be.

If changing your eating habits proves difficult, you should use some form of weight loss focused eating plan. One popular and effective plan is the Every other Day Diet. However, there are others that can also work.

I hope that you will succeed to lose 100 pounds in 6 months. However, even if you only come close, this is still a big achievement.

Internet Marketing – Tips You Must Follow

February 4th, 2010

The importance of internet marketing for your online or offline business can never be neglected or ignored. It is such a niche that if exploited properly it can make or break your business, totally. The reason for it being such a powerful medium is its vastness and its capability to spread out to each and every corner of the world. When you are marketing your product through the web, you have no idea what a vast audience you are capable of getting. So you better use this medium cautiously and smartly. It can make your business a super success.

The marketing should be done in such a way that your sales get boosted up. Your marketing strategies must be capable of generating traffic. You must market your products and business so efficiently that your visitors will be converted to sales. Failure to do the marketing properly won’t benefit your business at all and you shall gradually loose business. So what are the marketing strategies that you must follow?

Well to start off you can try introducing eye catching offers, you can make people accessible to your products at much lower rates so that they won’t hesitate to try it out. If your product is good enough, you shall automatically gain their confidence and your business shall eventually improve. You must etch out a well planned marketing strategy; you cannot go haphazard and do just anything you want to. Your plan will determine how your business will fair in the long run.

You must ensure few things to guarantee a long term success. First and foremost you must have a product that can stand out amongst the queue of similar products. If you have nothing more to offer to your customers, why on earth would they choose your product over the others? Your product must have an Unique Selling Point that will draw your customers. Failure to provide quality will do no good to any of your marketing strategies.

Now once that is ensured there are many ways you can market your business online. The vast potential of the internet is hard to exactly fathom. Your business website will be your main source to online marketing. You have to promote that well to reach a greater audience. Now you can try many things; blogging, article writing, link building, advertising through banner ads etc. Use the social media sites, participate in forums add comments on the testimonials and blogs of complementary product. You have to make sure you leave your link back to your website at all these places to generate maximum traffic that will eventually get converted to sales.

You must not compromise on quality, Even if it’s the blog, the article, even if it is a comment that you are adding, do not do it for the sake of doing it. Making shallow comments and posting irrelevant blogs will tamper your reputation only instead of doing your business any good. Ensure these very simple factors and see the Internet do wonders for your business.

Does Hypnosis Work For Weight Loss?

February 3rd, 2010

Hypnosis conjures up images of a bearded man with piercing black eyes and a mesmerizing deep voice swinging a pendulum back and forth, chanting, “You are getting very sleeeeepy.” Hypnosis is terribly misunderstood and the only exposure to hypnosis most people will ever have is a Las Vegas stage show. But stage hypnosis for entertainment and hypnotherapy for behavior change are completely different animals. Could “real” hypnotherapy help you get leaner?

I’ve wondered the same thing myself for decades, since I first started bodybuilding.

In the late 1980’s, Dr. Judd Biasiotto published numerous books about the mind in sports including one called, “Hypnotize Me And Make Me Great.”

That 70-page book, which has long since gone out of print (but still holds a hallowed place on my shelf), was one of the books that sparked my interest in mind power and hypnosis.

In case you’re not familiar with strength sports, Dr. Judd is the guy who squatted 605 pounds at a body weight of 132 pounds – a staggering feat, as any powerlifter will tell you. When a world class lifter who also holds a PhD in sports psychology says there’s something to hypnosis, and that his mental training regimen was instrumental in his success, a teenage wannabe bodybuilder, desperate for muscle, listens!

All these years later, my interest in hypnosis and the powers of the mind have never waned. I’ve used self hypnosis as well as hypnosis CD’s, which were directed at improving performance in the gym, generating maximum intensity during workouts and pushing through the pain barrier. While I don’t see hypnosis as anything magical, I do believe it has been helpful. I also believe that a comprehensive mental training program, which may include hypnosis, can make or break your weight loss program success and give athletes a competitive advantage.

Any seasoned coach can tell you that which diet or training program you follow is irrelevant if you can’t follow it consistently. Many of the problems such as non-compliance, self-sabotage, inconsistency and lack of motivation are mind problems, not body problems.

One misconception about hypnosis is the fear that you’ll lose command of your faculties during a session or that it’s some kind of “mind control.” This is not true to any greater degree than your family, friends, peers or culture have “controlled” your mind.

The fact is, the mind is amenable to suggestion, (especially the mind of a very young child), and in that sense everything is hypnosis. Reading the newspaper or watching TV is hypnosis or “mental programming” in one sense. You get “programmed” by societal norms to become one of the masses, unless you make a choice to be different and become what you want to be.

Another source of misconceptions about hypnosis comes from stage hypnosis, which has virtually nothing to do with hypnotherapy for personal change. The stage hypnotist intentionally ferrets out the most susceptible individuals in his audience – who happen to be willing participants – and then induces some hypnotic phenomenon for entertainment value.

Hypnosis, as used in personal change work, is simply a relaxed state of altered consciousness and heightened focus where the conscious mind gets out of the way, allowing a message from the hypnotherapist to reach your subconscious more easily. When your subconscious gets the message, it stimulates positive behaviors, so hypnosis is simply a tool for behavior change.

Self hypnosis (by yourself), is as simple as taking long, deep breaths, getting relaxed (sometimes using progressive muscle relaxation techniques), then doing your visualization or repeating affirmations, or even listening to your own home-made affirmations tape.

Many people report great success with hypnosis, but others do not. The mixed results probably have to do with the practitioner, and some with the subject. What kind of results can you expect from hypnosis? Could hypnosis help you lose weight or change your body in other ways?

I believe that there is a mind-body link and that it’s entirely possible that the brain, central nervous system and subconscious mind can literally “talk” to the various cells of your body and that this may be a factor in healing from illnesses. I believe that the body is a remarkable self-healing machine and its own natural pharmacy.

I think it’s pretty difficult to prove, but being that a legitimate science exists on this subject (it’s called psychoneuroimmunology), the scientific community seems to think enough of the mind-body connection to spend time, money and resources to formally investigate it. There are many exciting and plausible theories. We also have the placebo effect to consider, where a belief can affect biology in truly amazing ways.

That said, when it comes to hypnosis, I think you should view it with an eye of caution as well as interest. First and foremost, and perhaps exclusively, you should see hypnosis as a tool to change behavior. When you look at a claim made for hypnosis, you should ask yourself whether that claim is a result that can be achieved through a change in your behavior.

For example, if someone promotes hypnosis for muscle growth, is it possible that your behavior might change in a way that you gain more muscle? The answer is yes. The hypnosis might help you change your eating habits, and you might just push yourself harder in the gym. Therefore, the muscle growth occurs as a result of behavior change – eating better and training harder – rather than the hypnosis itself.

It’s the same with body fat reduction: Will hypnosis magically increase your metabolism from a mind body connection? While I like to keep an open mind, I seriously doubt it and I’m not too enthused about hypnotherapists who say they will hypnotize you and your metabolism will speed up. If it can happen, I’m not sure it will ever be provable using the scientific method, so it may ultimately come down to your will to believe the claims.

So, could hypnosis help with breast enlargement? Well, maybe. A thought might bubble up from your subconscious mind that it’s a good idea to save up your money, go visit the doctor, and fork over the three grand for implants (sarcasm intended).

Guys, I could give the same warning about hypnosis for enlargement of your…. uh… your amount of hair… yeah, hair growth, that’s it… watch out for those hair growth hypnosis claims. I’m not so sure I believe them (grin).

What about weight loss?

Although the results are not definitive, there’s some clinical psychology research that’s been published in peer reviewed journals which shows successful results from hypnosis for weight loss. In part 2 of this series, you’ll hear more about what those studies found.

Even more eye-opening in my view are some of the documented cases of medical hypnosis, which range from simple pain relief from dental work to surgery without anesthesia (which is pretty freaky if you think about it). The mind does affect the body.

In my opinion, hypnosis sessions or hypnosis CD’s can be a valuable adjunct to a comprehensive fitness, nutrition and lifestyle program for some people, if you get them from a reputable and skilled hypnotherapist.

Even better, I believe the ideal type of session would include conscious coaching and education as well as traditional hypnosis, not just a passive situation where you listen and expect your mind to be positively “programmed.”

Then again, I think this is why weight loss hypnosis CDs sell like gangbusters, because they’re often sold under the pretense that you do absolutely nothing. Just listen and get slim – the perfect “quick fix.”

I don’t think it’s that simple or easy. You have to accept responsibility for change, take an active role in creating change and have a bias for action if you really want to be successful. You have to work on the physical and mental plane simultaneously not just “think positive” or rely on self help CD’s of any kind.

So while I DO believe hypnosis can be a valuable tool, at the end of the day, programming your mind for success all boils down to what you say to yourself (and see/read/listen to), most of the time. You can’t work with a hypnotherapist every day for the rest of your life, but you do talk to yourself non stop every single day, and repetition is a proven way to condition the mind.

The way you talk to yourself, most of the time, IS “hypnosis” if you think about it… it’s self-hypnosis.

If you already have a structured training and nutrition plan, but you’re having challenges with the behavior change side of things, I hypnosis or positive mental programming CD’s might be worth trying as an additional tool in your “mental training” took kit.

Just remember that in the long run, you are your own best hypnotherapist and when it comes to the claims, let the buyer beware.

The Four Steps to Treating Adrenal Fatigue

February 3rd, 2010

If fatigue has taken a hold of you and you have ruled out other illnesses like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome then you may have adrenal fatigue. It is estimated that 70% of all people have it. Fatigue is a sign of stress and stress as well all know leads to some major medical issues including heart problems.

Four key steps to treating adrenal fatigue

One- Get more sleep and relaxation

We are in a society that is busy and fast paced. We have little time or more simply we make little time to relax. We do not sleep well or long enough and we rarely take and “me” time. All this fast paced stuff only increases your stress level and puts more and more demand on our adrenal glands. The hormones just can not pump out enough to deal with the level of stress we are trying to. As most of our organs need time to regroup and recover so do our adrenal glands. We must learn to give them time to recover.

The job of the adrenal glands is to keep our hormone levels at the proper amount. They are known as the anti stress hormones, but they can only do their job if allowed the proper amount of time to rest and recover. Science says this amount is 8-9 hours a night for it to be able to function properly during the day when called upon.

Not only do our everyday routines place stress on our bodies but to a great degree on our emotions and minds too. If you do not allow your minds to distress then your life will stress out and you will become severely fatigued. If you think being tired at the end of the day is bad, just wait until you are tired out after getting up in the morning.

You can see how important it is when you realize that because of medically studies that the state employments departments make all employers give their employees recommended breaks each shift. This is because they found that allowing the worker to rest, their energies are recovered and they can work more efficiently.

Two- Work on reducing stress in your life

Wikipedia defines stress as a term that refers to the consequence of the failure of an organism – human or animal – to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats, whether actual or imagined.

It is obvious that in America today it is virtually impossible to live a life that is totally stress free. It is a fact of life that stress is life, our goal has got to be to find ways to reduce the stress. Sounds simple when you write it, but it really is a rather difficult thing to do. Especially since by the time you need to reduce it, it is already pretty much consuming you.

There is a stress hormone called cortisol that is released by the adrenal glands to help us cope with and then to recover from stress. This is the hormone that is best known as the “flight or fight” response hormone. It acts just like adrenaline. The difference is that adrenaline is short acting to get us out of danger; cortisol is the long term hormone that allows up the energy to perform normal tasks.

When are limited supply of cortisol is used up and we do not allow our bodies times to recover that is when we start having fatigue symptoms. There are things each day you can do to relieve the stress in your life. First off, take time to unwind everyday. A few minutes here and there is all it takes. Try to not get upset over everything and pick your battles. Do not stress over problems you can not change. Do not argue over politics and religion and things that rile you up but really go no where. If you are upset all the time then your stress level is too high all the time.

Besides taking time out to relax, do something with that time that you will enjoy. Do a hobby, go for a relaxing walk, engage in some activity that destresses you.

Three- Take the needed vitamins, minerals and supplements that will help your body

A good multi vitamin will help your body handle stress. There are even companies that make formulas geared to “stress”. They will have additions of minerals that help the body’s immunities and to recover from stressful situations.

Some of the more important vitamins to take for adrenal fatigue are B5, B6, B12 and Vitamin C. The important minerals seem to be magnesium and zinc. Natural supplements are licorice, DHEA and Echinacea

Four- Try regular exercise

Our bodies are made to move. So exercise is a vital component to strengthening the body. Science shows that with regular exercise, the hormones in our body are circulated better and therefore metabolize easier. Cortisol, the main stress hormone also regulates our blood sugar and is one reason that exercise helps in the process.

When you first decide to exercise do not go hog wild and run a marathon. It is important that you build your tolerance up slowly. If you overdo it you will put your recovery back. So remember to pace yourself and do not engage in competitive sports. Start out by walking, it’s a good exercise that is easy on your body and yet allows you to build up to walking more and more and thus getting stronger. When you are stronger then you can think of jogging or speed walking. Start with 20 minutes three times a week and increase to five times a week before increasing the time.

If you incorporate just these four steps into your personal adrenal fatigue routine then you will see noteworthy advancement of health for most of the symptoms. These simple changes in your life will enable you to treat and live with adrenal fatigue.

Keeping Tabs on Broken Links

February 2nd, 2010

When you visit other websites, are there any aspects to your visit that you found less than thrilling? If you are like most people, you probably are quite annoyed when you click on a link only to find that it is broken. It is disappointing when you wish to learn more about a subject, product, or service and the links just are functioning. It also does not say very much positive about the web hosting company either. Really, broken links make a website look like amateur hour which is why you need to make sure that your own website is devoid of broken links and similar problems.

When you look into web hosting and domain registration, you will want to hire a development team that will always test your links prior to placing them live on the web. The service should also do what is necessary in terms of periodically checking the links to make sure they are properly functioning. This way, the visitors to your site are not as disappointed as you would be if you can across a website that was riddled with broken links.

Yes, broken links make a very improper impression on visitors which is why they must always be located and fixed. And here is some news, if you want to make sure the links are not broken, you will need to check them yourself. While you could leave the task to the web hosting company, you definitely would be better served double checking on your own to make sure all links are properly functioning. Would you want the link to your online store to be broken? Imagine the horrors that would cause your online business!

This does raise the question of how to go about checking the links. Yes, there can be a deliberate step-by-step process you can follow since this will ensure you do not miss anything. For those curious about such a process, here is a brief rundown:

Taking your time with the creation of the website is always advised. When the creation and publishing of the website is rushed, errors are prone to be caused. Broken links are certainly a high risk possible when rushed or sloppy website creation is undertaken. As such, careful deliberation is best employed when crafting the site.

Double check the spelling of the URL in the HTML code and also double check the coding for possible spacing errors. Such problems are frequent reasons behind broken links. Running a quick check of the site for HTML issues is always advisable in the development process.

It also does not hurt to set file structures in a manner that makes naming and new files (or even updating old files) without issues and problems with discrepancies. This will dramatically reduce problems and issues related to broken links.

Images are also important to check as well. While this is often overlooked, it is really a very important facet to making sure you have checked to see that all links are properly functioning. Image links have a tendency to be the root of a lot of dead and ineffectual links. There are various reasons why an image link could be flawed. A close examination of the link will yield a better understanding of the problem which will allow you to correct such a problem. Of course, these tasks could be left to web hosting or domain registration service professionals as well. But, as previously mentioned, you also need to do a little checking on your own to make sure the proper amount of work is performed. This is not only true of image links but any and every facet of web hosting and publishing in general.

Updating links on a regular basis is another means of reducing the potential for broken links to overrun a particular site. Again, this is a facet that is sometimes overlooked but it really should not be since it is so important. Sometimes, the pages you link to may have been tweaked, modified, or altered. If this is the case, you will want to know so and make the proper adjustments. This way, your visitors are always directed to where they need to be directed.

Yes, there are many different ways to make sure that the links on your website are working effectively. Following the various steps of making sure the links work is highly recommended since it will maximize the value of your website.

WordPress Training Course – Discovering WordPress Should Be Easy

February 2nd, 2010

WordPress training isn’t like getting Microsoft or Oracle certified, because there isn’t an official certification program. Learning something new is always tough; learning a powerful software suite like WordPress can be frightening. It need not be. WordPress is actually approachable and easy to start with. Badly written course material can cast a pall over what should be a kick in the pants, because WordPress lets you do great things very quickly.

Here’s what to look for as you evaluate WordPress training courses.

•Clear indication of the version being taught
•Good freebies
•Step by step all the way
•Brief explanations of theory along with the how-to
•WordPress is far more than just a blogging application-do the course developers know?

WordPress changes fast-what version do they cover?

WordPress has transformed dramatically in the last few versions from highly capable blogging application to enterprise-ready content management system. New versions with major feature changes appear at least twice a year-much more quickly than most enterprise apps. Make sure the training materials you’re evaluating cover the latest version.

Vendor should give away great content

You should have absolutely no questions about the quality of the material you’re about to shell out good money for. That means the vendor should have the guts to give you a free sample that’s so good it leaves you no doubt that you’re getting serious value for the money. Take advantage of this very competitive market.

Step-by-step instructions so good you can learn just by looking

When you evaluate the free sample, it should tell you clearly what you’re about to learn, then show you with specific, fully illustrated step-by-step illustrations that you learn something new even if typing each command computer. You should be able to drop into the learning materials at any point and know precisely how to go about any specific step.

Here’s an example. If it says something like “Install the WP-DBManager plugin,” you’ve found a loser. Why? They’re leaving way too much up to chance. How do you get the WP-DBManager plugin, anyway? Can you get it through the WordPress dashboard or do you have to go straight to the developer’s site? (The former.) Is there anything you should know about that particular plugin after you install it? (Yes. You need to ensure immediately that it mails backups to your free email account every day, so you’re ready when disaster strikes.)

Instead, you should see clear instructions on how to install the plugin, and how to configure it, in such a way that even an unsophisticated user can do the job.

Sell the Theory

On the other hand, very often training materials show you how to do things without explaining exactly why you’re doing them. Everything you learn should start with an introduction explaining not only what you’re learning, but they should sell you on learning it. And I mean sell it. If you start a new section and can’t tell after the introductory paragraph how that section will make your publishing task easier or better or both, then that section has failed you. It’s not that you’re slow. It’s that the publisher hasn’t done its job.

WordPress is Big. Your Training Shouldn’t Be Small

WordPress is so accessible it’s easy to forget that it has gone far beyond blogging. It is so extensible through plugins and themes that you should have a solid reason for not using WordPress to to launch any small to medium site. If the training material doesn’t address larger issues, such as how to create a site that doesn’t look like a blog at all, you know the publisher is simply not with the program. Move on. There’s plenty of choice in the world of WordPress training.

Control Your Hunger, Get the Body You Deserve

February 1st, 2010

When undergoing a weight loss routine you may have sudden uncontrollable urges to eat. Dealing with these urges is important, because if you give into them you will deviate from your course, and you do not want to do that. Controlling hunger can vary in difficulty from person to person but there are a few things you can do to take care of it. Again no one said losing weight was going to be easy.

Unless you’re one of the people that suffers from high acid production and needs to eat or suffer heartburn the rest of the night, simply denying the hunger pang can work. This takes a lot of willpower and doesn’t always work out. Remind yourself that you need to avoid eating this late in order to reach your long term goal. Remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place. If all else falls remind yourself that your sensei won’t acknowledge you as a man if you don’t fight off the urge. If any of you get the joke in the last part I’m going to be disturbed and go hide somewhere.

Now onto more serious matters, what can you do to fight off hunger pangs? Well one thing you can do when you establish your diet is make a buffer zone. A buffer zone is an amount of calories, carbs, and fats, which you allow yourself in the event something like this happens. You always maintain the buffer zone and work it into your calculations. That way if you absolutely need to eat you can do this without messing up your routine.

You don’t necessarily have to eat anything high in calories to get the pangs to stop. Normally just eating anything will make your stomach shut up. But make sure it’s healthy, one bowl of ice cream can mess you up for the week. There are great deals of foods that can help you control these midnight urges. Of course I shouldn’t say midnight urges, they can strike any time, and even wake you up if they are bad enough.

First and foremost remember that in most cases you have a lot of acid in your stomach that needs something to do, that may be why you are hungry. So try eating a piece of bread, or other absorbing food. It may not be the tastiest but it’s definitely not the worst thing to eat when this hits. You can also try having single serving low calorie yogurts on hand. Or low calorie ice cream, again watch the amount. But again it all comes back to will power.

Being able to resist the pang, and if you must eat eating only so much can be a very taxing thing to do. Controlling hunger is never easy. If you do decide to give into the pang then you may lose control and start eating everything in sight, in addition to what you had in your buffer zone. This is a bad thing, of course that goes without telling.

Another reason you may be experiencing hunger pangs is because your body is use to a higher food intake. You will be hungry out of habit of constantly being full. But needing to be full doesn’t mean you need to eat a lot. There are many foods that fill a person; these include foods with fiber and whole grains. They tend to make your stomach think it’s full and will quiet it down. Veggies and fruits can also help. If that doesn’t work try nuts with low sodium content, not many just a few.

The physiological factor of always having to eat is probably one of the biggest things people have to fight off when they start a weight loss routine. The mind has fallen into a habit of eating three or four big meals a day and is now stuck with two or three normal sized meals. Not to mention some kind of health dessert instead of cake or ice cream. This can make your system go haywire at first, but after it’s under control you will still suffer hunger pangs.

Stopping them completely isn’t a real possibility. Even after you lose to your target weight you will still get them. By that time hopefully you are strong enough to resist them, if not keep up your buffer zone. Many people have reached their goals only to fall backwards because they lost their self control. This can be a very painful thing to recover from, so keep up your willpower and resist the pangs.

Some people are able to resist them by themselves, but if you find you need help then call your friends, and or support group. They can stay with you and remind you not to eat should the hunger pang arrive. Some may in fact swat you on the head with something if they catch you eating, but they are doing it because they care about you, not because they hate you. After all it takes a real friend to spend the night at someone’s house and keep them from eating in the middle of the night.

In closing controlling hunger can be a hard battle. The hunger pangs that will hit you will be strong and may last for a while.
